Chanting the names of God

It is said by great realized sages that in the present age that we are living in, chanting of the holy names of God is the only way to end the miseries of material existence. It is said that there is no other way out of this miserable material condition.

Lord Caitanya instructs us that this chanting of the names of God cleanses all dirt from the mirror of the heart, and gives the cooling benediction of the moon’s rays upon the conditioned living entities burning in the forest fire of material existence. There is no specific time or place for chanting the names of God – it can be done at any time and place sincerely and attentively. Srila Prabhupada assures us that once one develops the habit of chanting the names of God, this would gradually clean the heart of all impurities and bring to an end all sinful life. And when the heart becomes pure and all sins are totally eradicated, we would be able to render transcendental devotional service to the Lord.

Srila Prabhupada has stressed again and again that the holy names of Krsna are non-different from Krsna Himself, and hence, when we chant the names of Krsna sincerely and attentively, we are associating with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna Himself. If we simply engage our tongue in chanting the names of God, gradually we will certainly become purified from within. It might be a gradual process, but the result of transcendental devotional service is sure to come.

Simply by chanting “Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”, we have been assured by self-realized masters that we can gradually end our miseries, and come to the transcendental platform.
